Bishop Jonathan O. Stewart was born on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in a little village called Wetipquin. He received his primary and secondary education in schools in Chester, PA., and Wicomico County Maryland. After completing high school in Salisbury, Maryland, he served in the US Air Force for eight years. One day in 1980, while working as an electronic technician and listening to an old-time gospel radio program, he gave his life to Christ. Shortly after, God revealed to him that he was to be a messenger of the Good News of Christ. After pastoring in several churches in the AUMP Conference, Bishop Stewart has been pastoring at St. John’s in Chester, PA for thirty-six years. He has held the positions of, Bishop’s Steward, conference trustee, trustee treasurer, conference treasurer, Presiding Elder, Conference Presiding Elder, elected to the position of Bishop Coadjutor and presently is the Presiding Bishop of the African Union Methodist Protestant Church. Bishop Stewart believes in studying to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that need not be ashamed 2 Timothy 2:15. Bishop Stewart earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible from the Philadelphia college of Bible and a Master of Arts in Religion from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Bishop Stewart is married to Joan Stewart and they have two sons and five grandchildren.
